AI’s impact on the future of Higher Education
Article two of Brighteye’s three piece series on AI in Education has been released, this time exploring AI’s impact on the future of higher education (HE). Our research found that the landscape for AI adoption in HE differs significantly from that in K12 Education. Please do get in touch if you have any thoughts you would like to share on this topic, we look forward to hearing your perspectives.
Firm-level adoption of AI and automation technologies: Case Studies Report
The Institute for the Future of Work have published an in depth study based on hundreds of hours of interviews of people using AI and automation tools in the workplace about how it was changing their roles, and what their experiences had been on the quality of their work, and on their wellbeing. Key findings include:
Worker displacement was rare, however changes to the nature of work were more significant - this varied across role and the demongraphic of the individual
The need for training is large in order to transition the workforce into new types of jobs
Appropriate design, development and deployment of tech is important for gains in productivity
Third mission, internationalisation are top HE priorities
A survey of nearly 500 higher education institution leaders from across the European region put “internationalisation and global outreach” alongside “third mission and services to society” as top priorities. While “third mission and service to society” remains a broad and loosely defined concept, 61% of respondents pointed to “skills development relevant to the labour market”. Internationalisation is also of increasing importance, as universities battle to recruit international students in order to combat declining local student numbers.
