Build your own AI Assistants (maybe they will soon even be able to ace Math)
đ Hi and welcome to Brighteye Weekly - your weekly take on all things Edtech, Startups and Venture Capital.

OpenAI releases new âAssistantâ functionÂ
If you are remotely following the latest tech and GenAI news, you will probably have come across the latest Open AI product release. With their new âAssistantâ function, they have made it a matter of minutes to create you own GenAI powered chatbot. A big opportunity for teachers and also founders to build their own assistants but also a continuing threat for many startups that have so far built an AI âWrapperâ (based on e.g. OpenAIâs LLM) rather than something proprietary.
It is time to pay attention to the science of learningÂ
An opinion piece on why teachers need to learn more about cognitive research and the science of learning. I would add to that: the same is true for many startups building in the Edtech space. Especially in times when content gets more and more commoditised, the actual delivery increases in importance.
The Three Dimensions of Math EdtechÂ
An interesting piece by Dan Meyer (Director of Research at Amplify) about how Math learning applications - which might look the same for someone new to Math, education, or technology - actually differ from each other. Also last week, researchers from Microsoft Research Asia, Peking University, and Xiâan Jiaotong University have released a new technique to improve large language modelsâ (LLMs) ability to solve math problems by having them learn from their mistakes, akin to how humans learn. While GenAI has left a big impression with most people in the last couple of months, many also kept pointing out the shocking mistakes these models make when it comes to solving basic Math problems.
